Great fun, man! I’m hooked. Reminds me of getting the latest Spider-Man and when you put it down you catch your breath say damn, that was crazy !what’s next?
These chapters are like getting a wonderful slice of cake once a week--I'm desperate for more when I finish, but if I think about what I read and savor it, I really am sated until next time.
I've been thinking a lot about attention lately, the way it's gotten all intertwined with capitalism and consumer culture, and I think a serialized novel like this really pushes against that tide. A binge captures and consumes attention without conscious thought, but going slow like this makes me use my attention differently, with a richer result as the carelessly unconscious becomes deliberately conscious. Thank you for writing this, and for giving readers this fascinating experience--I can't wait to find out what big change is coming!
rebecca there is something to this deliberative pace, both in writing and in the reading. but i suspect sure if there are 10 people reading it this way with joy there are another ten people out there who are holding off until THEY HAVE THE WHOLE THING. patience is a virtue this moment discourages but which all art, learning and justice requires.
I'm loving it. Random association, but this last scene of Mek and Feckles navigating the dangers of level 3 called to mind Mark and Helly's descent into the dystopian bowels of Lumon corporation's labyrinth in the AppleTV mega-hit Severance. Same level of tension, same investment in wanting to know what lurks and what's next.
it was a BIG yuk.
"death trappish"!!!
you know we do, lol. always going for the cheap yuks.
