There are some who claim that Stephen King’s The Dead Zone predicted the rise of Trump, a novel about precognition becoming its own act of prescience. Stephen King himself has not shied away from the comparisons.
That depends on which Trump you’re talking about. He has been quoted contradicting himself on several occasions. He mainly wants to leave our various partnerships like NATO which would destabilize Europe. He wants to let Russia win against Ukraine , as if they would stop there. He idolizes strong men like Putin while being a coward against such dictators.
How anyone can think that a politician who caused the Jan 6th insurrection is some kind of a dove is mind boggling.
That’s a good point, but generally the move from full blown war mongers, to at least skeptical of where our tax dollars are going should be encouraged, it’s also just interesting how in only 10 years the parties have changed to drastically, I agree they haven’t flipped, no Dems want boots on the ground anywhere either
It’s faux skepticism. Everyone knows that the easiest way to get rid of the deficit, fund health care, increase social security, you name it, is to cut Pentagon spending. But that is a sacred cow no one will touch. All of Trump’s supporters are happy to ignore his lifetime of criminality, his infidelities, and his scorn for his own supporters.
I love the book and movie as well, and I thought that GW was a better comparison, especially during Iraq and Afghanistan, the one thing that people on the left should agree with Trump on is that he’s been consistently anti war, even go back to the 2015 GOP debates, he stood on the stage and renounced foreign wars, he was the only one that did that
Cronenburg's adaptation I have seen multiple times, a great movie, thank you for reminding me.
With incredible performances from Martin Sheen and Christopher Walken and and Brooke Adams and Tom Skerrit and Herbert Lom... it's beyond dynamite.
watching it again now...its also a miracle of economical storytelling, not an superflous line or scene
only David Lean's Great Expectations comes close in quality of adaptation
